Throwback

In a tribute to how much I feel that I’ve grown as an artist over the last year, I submit a project that I worked on at this time last year. It was a promo to let people know there wasn’t going to be a 6 PM service the night of the Super Bowl.  It was my first real project I had been given since I had come on staff at NewSpring only a couple months earlier. I wrote, created, and played a starring role in the piece. It’s healthy to look back, if only to be thankful for the growth we undergo as artists.

Unleash 2010

So, we are just a few weeks away from Unleash 2010.  What is Unleash? Glad you asked. It’s a one day conference that NewSpring Church hosts designed to challenge and equip church leaders.  It’s held down here in Anderson, SC at the NewSpring Anderson Campus, and there are only a few tickets remaining.  Check out the website for more information. It’s a great deal at only $49 a ticket, so grab yours before it’s to late and you miss out.

Anyone already signed up to come? Look forward to seeing you there.

There were a lot of great pieces that our team put together for the 10th Anniversary Service last weekend.  Here’s a couple more that I didn’t have any involvement in, but were put together by my teammates.  This first one was the opener that rolled right after the counter.  My boss Ken put it together, and it’s fantastic. Custom audio was composed by Austin Booth.

This next one was produced by my talented teammate Ben Coleman. It’s a great mograph piece that was used as a roll-in to the song How Great is Our God. Was one of my favorites produced for that day.

This last piece was a soft-click track that Ken created to go with a performance of the song “Fix You“ by Coldplay.  You can find our more about the creation of this piece on Ken’s blog.

This is the 2nd of two stories that I had the opportunity to work on/produce for NewSpring’s 10th Anniversary Service.  This is the Story of Bill Nickas, a local restaurant proprietor in Anderson, SC.  More production notes after the video.

This video was also for the most part shot on the Canon 5D MKII.  I had to shoot some of the b-roll on the Panasonic HPX-170 because I had already returned the 5D to it’s owner.  I used a lot of different lights, just because of how big of a space that I had to work with and I shot it at night time.  I did the color correction for this one though using Apple’s Color program.  First time I’d ever done that, didn’t appreciate the user interface that much, but I also still have Final Cut Studio 2, not 3, and I heard there were some great improvements to it.  But I was really happy on how this one turned out, just wish I would have had the 5D longer so it would have all looked similar in shot quality.

So, since we got back from Christmas break, our team headed full boar toward our next challenge,  NewSpring Church’s 10th Anniversary Service, which we had this past Sunday on January 24th.  It was amazing, incredible…words are hard to come by to describe it. 14,000 people gathered in one arena to lift up the name of Jesus.  Over 350 individuals gave their lives to Christ that Sunday which made the stress and obstacles we faced getting ready for that day more than worth it.  I got to produce a couple of stories of individuals whose lives have been affected over the 10 years of NewSpring existence.  Here is the Story of Kacie McCoy. Details on the production after the video.

Got to shoot this on the Canon 5D MK II with two different lenses, a 24-70mm, and a 70-200mm.  Accomplished the lighting by using a 650w Softbox, 150w keylight, 300w for background lighting, and a Kino FLO Diva 200 for more subject lighting.  Did the color grading (which wasn’t a ton) in After Effects using Magic Bullet Looks and built in After Effects color tools.
